This month, our teams continued to further Credit Union 1’s commitment to education.
Our Community Engagement Team participated in Nevada Reading Week at Berkeley Bunker Elementary School, reading to third graders and building a partnership to provide financial education to staff and families. We also presented a financial literacy session to UIC students and athletes, equipping them with essential money management skills. CU1 also participated in Bite of Reality at Clark High School, where seniors navigated a real-world budgeting simulation.
The DeKalb branch taught a financial literacy class at DeKalb High School, reaching 50 students, while the Rantoul branch joined the Carter Family Foundation for Money Monday$, a financial literacy event at Rantoul Township High School. Additionally, the Rantoul branch hosted a credit education session for NIA Parent Mentors and participated in Read Across America, reading to children and promoting literacy. They also visited Head Start Preschool, engaging young learners through interactive reading sessions.
CU1 also gave back through volunteerism, with the Lombard branch supporting Chicago Bulls College Prep’s Black History Month Career Day, inspiring students with insights into career paths and overcoming challenges. The team also attended Faith and Work Movement Chicago, fostering faith-driven professional connections. The Matteson branch assisted at the Rich Township Food Pantry, while the Notre Dame branch volunteered at the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, helping assemble food packs for local families. Additionally, CU1 team members spent time at Three Square Food Bank, packing enough meals for 800 families. The Hobart branch volunteered at the Hobart Food Pantry, ensuring families received much-needed essentials. Meanwhile, CU1 partnered with Impact Life to host a blood drive in Rantoul collecting donations to help save over 15 lives. The Emory Healthcare volunteer event in Decatur allowed CU1 to connect with community members, offering financial awareness and resources to support financial wellness.
CU1 is proud to continue making a difference through education, volunteerism, and community support. We look forward to creating an even greater impact in the months ahead!
